ECNL Clubs, Coaches, Players and Families –

As we navigate through this unprecedented time in history, when sport and much more in society is shut down or suspended, there is still much we can do to grow as people, to give back, and to make our community better. Even when sport stops, with determination and creativity we can still use the game to serve others. In this spirit, the ECNL is reaching out to you to help us make a difference and to help fulfill our mission of being “More Than A League.”

Today, the ECNL is launching the “Shoe Flip Challenge,” an online challenge representing a personal commitment to donate new or gently used soccer footwear to players in under-served communities through the US Soccer Foundation’s Passback program and our partner Soccer.com. We are hoping that your club, teams and players will all join in bringing this spirit of positivity to those around us.

Participating in the Shoe Flip Challenge is easy – record a video of yourself juggling a soccer ball barefoot while holding a pair of shoes, then flip the shoes in the air and catch them while still juggling.

This challenge visually represents:

The fact that there are many players across the world playing barefoot and in need of basic equipment to enjoy the game.

Your personal commitment to “flip” your new or gently used equipment to others.

At the end of your Shoe Flip Challenge video, challenge someone else in your club, your team, or your community to do the same, and post your video online using the hashtags #ShoeFlipChallenge and #MoreThanALeague. Your commitment will inspire others to do the same.

To support this initiative, the ECNL will be launching a promotional video campaign with the first Shoe Flip Challenge participants – Yael Averbuch-West, former US Women’s National Team and professional player, and Darel Russell – former professional at English clubs Norwich City, Stoke City, and Preston North End. These ambassadors will be the first of what we hope will be many inspiring others to give back. We hope that you and your club will join them in this effort and kick off the Shoe Flip Challenge within your club.

To add excitement and raise further awareness to this campaign, the most innovative, unique, and inspiring Shoe Flip Challenge videos will be featured in a billboard promotion in New York City’s Time Square in the coming months – your chance to share your inspiration in front of millions of people.

We hope that you will join us in committing to give back to the game you love, and to help others love the game as well.
